MESMO Inc. (MESMO) has a job opening for an experienced professional SocioEconomic
Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support its current SIGAR contract.
Job Description:
The Socio-Economic SME is accountable to MESMO for providing timely and professional support to MESMO’s client. The SME understands, articulates and implements best practices related to his/her area of expertise. The SME will be responsible to analyze reports from Research Analysts and provide expert level guidance to MESMO’s client.
Specific Tasks:
MESMO’s client requires research support for a variety of reports being undertaken by its
Lessons Learned Program (LLP) regarding Afghanistan reconstruction.
SME will conduct research in support of MESMO’s client’s analyst, auditors, and investigators in
their analysis of the U.S. reconstruction effort in Afghanistan.
Required Skills Sets:
The Subject Matter Expert must possess analytical skills including but not limited to:
Extensive experience with data mining using automated systems; qualitative and
quantitative analysis of audits and investigations; and assessing international civilianmilitary
activities.
Demonstrated expertise writing reports that include statistical analysis of processed data
that lead the reviewer to a logical conclusion.
A thorough understanding of Department of Defenses and Department of State policies,
programs, and procedures, as well as how that translates into action at the national
security level. Outstanding briefing skills.
Possess analytical know how for independent and objective oversight.
Qualifications/Experience:
Master’s Degree or Higher, in field related to Socio-Economic
5 years of experience on international development, foreign relations, and military
issues
At least 2-3 years of experience focused specifically on Afghanistan or 1-2 years in
Afghanistan working in a policy related position
Knowledge of US and international reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan
Proven writing ability on policy oriented publications, e.g., academic journals, think
tanks, NGOs, government agencies, or long-form journalism pieces
Preferred Experience:
Experience with geo-spatial analysis and software, such as ArcGIS
Experience conducting interviews independently
Experience doing quantitative analysis and dealing with large datasets
Familiarity with statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, and R
Clearance: Active Secret
Primary Location: Arlington, VA with some travel to Afghanistan
